What is Static Vision? We are a self-funded, fully-independent film screening collective and occasional distributor. We also run the Brunswick Underground Film Festival (BUFF).
What is Trash Night? Trash Night is a screening series programmed and hosted by BUFF Head Programmer, independent filmmaker, and garbage boy Kai Perrignon.
What is “trash”? Trash cinema is a catch-all for the disreputable, the forgotten, the disrespected, movies from the fringes. It can encompass everything from a sleazy exploitation picture to a no-budget art provocation. It’s relative; trash is what we throw away, and we want to pick it back up and treat it with the same curiosity and respect provided to more canonised, glossier, and/or institutionally approved work. That’s what we mean when we call Trash Night "a place where the gutter meets the sky".
Where is Static Vision HQ? Static Vision HQ can be found at 47 Melville Road, Brunswick West VIC 3055. Next to Stop 35 on the 58 tram line. Look for the posters in the window below the “Glam & Co” sign.
Is Static Vision HQ accessible? Our entrance has a small step. Inside is all flat ground, though our restroom doesn’t have accessibility tools such as grab bars. Our apologies; the venue is a rental. We are happy to help in any way possible.
Is there anything to eat/drink around here? Static Vision HQ has alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available for cheap. For most hot food needs, we recommend Con’s Deli, right next door to Static Vision HQ. For grocery needs, there’s a Foodworks across the street.
What do you accept for payment? We accept card or cash; we have a square reader.
Does Static Vision HQ have a bathroom? Yes, we have an all-gender bathroom on site.
Do you provide content warnings? Yes, we provide content warnings on individual film pages. Many of the movies shown under the Trash Night banner are transgressive and challenging, but the atmosphere of the screenings is totally chill. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out.
Who do I contact for questions, issues, etc? Email kai@trash.fest.Melbourne or message @trashnightmelb.
Are your screenings suitable for all audiences? Unless noted on the film page, our screenings are 18+.
